Attica - Max Oakley, 93, formerly of 911 S. McDonald, Attica and who had been residing in Woodland Manor Nursing Center, Attica died at 11:30 p.m. August 20, 1993 at the nursing center. He was born at West Lebanon Nov 2, 1899 son of John Wesley and Rose Jones Oakley. He married Edna Marie Workinger October 1, 1919 in Attica. She preceded him in death April 9, 1993. He had lived most of his life in Attica and Fountain County. He attended Attica school. He had formerly worked for the Poston-Herron Brick Company in Attica as a brick hacker. He later was a grinder at Harrison Steel Castings Company in Attica several years. After his retirement from the steel factory he worked as a custodian for Attica School Corporation. He was a member of New Hope Baptist church, Attica. Surviving are four sons, Thomas and Daniel both of Lafayette; RIchrad, Sealy, Tx; Larry, Attica; a daughter, Maxine Oakley Bonner, South Bend; 29 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren and two step great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and a daughter, Anna Jean Estes. Funeral services were held at Maus Funeral Home, Attica at 2 p.m. Monday with Rev. Paul Ray officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Attica. Memorial contributions may be made to New Hope Baptist Church, Attica.
